Offshore Wind Farm Development
The offshore wind industry continues to experience strong growth and is expected to continue to expand at a rapid pace over the next decade. As of the start of December 2022, Clarksons Research tracked 57 GW of global active offshore wind capacity.
The investment outlook for 2023 appears positive and over the medium-term Clarksons Research projects that installed capacity will grow at a compound annual growth rate of around 22% through to 2030.
The number of vessels operating within offshore wind is rapidly on the rise, with strong demand for new wind turbine installation vessels (WTIVs) and crew/supply offshore vessels in 2022. Clarksons Research database now includes over 1,900 units working within Offshore Wind and regularly tracks the locations, specifications and contracts of each.
As the industry continues to grow, with over 10,000 turbines set to be installed globally in the next 5 years, WTIV ordering activity remains strong as does the support and service sector with 98 orders placed globally in 2022. Ordering activity for CSOVs has been particularly robust, with 18 CSOV orders placed. The outlook for demand remains positive, while available supply may be limited.
